Tutorial
This page contains basic information about how to use QwikLaw.
For a more detailed tutorial, feel free to download a more expansive tutorial in PDF format.
Search
The Search link will take you to the main search page which searches the main database.
Queries look for exact and partial matches so be brief with your search term(s). Example: "dog bite" will return 0 results. However, "dog" will return results, as well as "bite".
Try typing in one key word or partial word; "aggr" will return "aggravated" and anything else with "aggr" in the word.
Categories
This page lists all the categories in the main database.
Local Ordinances
QwikLaw contains a limited (but expanding!) database of jurisdiction-specific ordinances.
Our goal is to eventually include the most commonly used ordinances in each jurisdiction. This process will take time and jurisdictional interest will play a large part in priority.
Controlled Substances
Clicking on the Controlled Substances link will bring up a search box.
You can search the Controlled Substances database for a particular substance and display information relating to that substance, such as aliases and charging elements.
As with the general search feature, the Controlled Substances search allows for partial matches.
Also included in the Controlled Substances Search box is "Pill Identifier". This link will take you to the Drugs.com page where you can input pill information to obtain substance identification. Very helpful when unidentified pills are found on arrestees.
Reference
The Reference section contains numerous references that are both helpful and informational.
Miranda Rights verbiage, Sobriety Test Procedures, Vehicle Seizure Guidelines, NCDL Codes, and various definitions are among just a few of the many segments you'll find.
